Eco Thermostat
Ideal temperature per room
Each room in your home has different heating needs. Setting the right temperature in each room means more comfort and a lower heating bill at the same time — since every degree less saves around 7% on fuel costs.

Living room and main living areas (19 – 21 °C)
The living room is where you spend most of your active time at home. 20 °C is the standard comfort reference. If you're watching TV or reading (sedentary activity), 19 °C is perfectly comfortable with a light blanket. The kitchen, where you're more active, can be kept 1–2 degrees cooler.
Adult bedroom (16 – 18 °C)
The human body naturally cools down during sleep. A cooler bedroom promotes deeper, better quality sleep. 17 °C is the sweet spot for most adults. Below 14 °C, sleep quality suffers and condensation risks increase.
Baby and child's bedroom (18 – 20 °C)
Infants cannot regulate their body temperature efficiently. Keep the baby's room between 18 and 20 °C, check regularly with a room thermometer, and avoid heavy blankets that can be dangerous. For children over 2, 18 °C is sufficient.
Bathroom (20 – 22 °C)
Bathrooms are used briefly but require a higher temperature because of undressing. A programmable heated towel rail is often enough to maintain this temperature without overheating the room all day.
Night and away temperatures
Never let heated rooms drop below 14 °C: below this threshold, condensation encourages mould and structural damage. During working hours away from home, 15–16 °C is a good setback temperature. Use our programming calculator to get precise timing for your schedule.
Tip: automate with a smart thermostat
A smart thermostat automatically adjusts temperature based on your presence, avoiding heating an empty home. The Tado V3+ tracks your phone's GPS and adjusts heating as you leave and return. See our smart thermostat comparison to choose the right model.
Frequently asked questions
What temperature should a bedroom be at night?
16 to 18°C for adults. For a baby, keep the room between 18 and 20°C.
How much can I save by lowering temperature when away?
Every 1°C less = ~7% savings. 4 degrees less during 10 hours away saves approximately 28% on heating costs during those hours.
What is the minimum temperature to avoid damp?
Do not let rooms drop below 14°C to prevent condensation and mould.
